Buying Compatible Ink Cartridges Is A Great Economy Drive!

Everyone claims their own experiences with the many different types of printer ink cartridges available on the market and trying to get their printer to produce best quality prints for key projects. This can cause problems when attempting to be as economical as possible with expensive inks and paper yet being forced to repeat trial copies before being satisfied with the end results. This is in addition to maybe trying to do your bit for the environment and only printing when strictly necesssary.

Furthermore, it has been very obvious that the purchasing price for new printers has dropped to such low levels that it is often the cost of replacing toner or ink cartridges, which appear to be the bigger expense! Mass consumer electrical products like printers can often generate less profit margin per one time purchase than may be obtained by the frequent replacement of user service parts, such as inks and toners.

Consequently, there has been a marked increase in the popularity of buying compatible ink cartridges for basic, everyday printing of black and white single pages and the occasional colour print. When compatible cartridge manufacturers first entered the market some years back, they were seen to be less reliable compared to OEM ( original equipement manufacturer) carts. The idea of the inferior quality of compatibles remained for a long time with trust in original brand names considered best policy, desoite of the higher price.

Not only has the toughening economy and spiralling prices been playing its part in changing attitudes, the shift to compatibles, third-party recycled or remanufactured cartridges also reflects the near total adoption of digital format storage and document transfer/ download rather than the necessity of printing a good quality, reference hard copy every time.

Compatible cartridges are manufactured and factory tested to meet the same standards of the equivalent name brands and is increasingly able to replace an original factory fitted ink in any printer without affecting the warranty. In addition, many compatible or third-party cartridges are often made in the same factories from exactly the same materials and parts as original brand cartridges!

Comparison testing has also frequently shown that compatible, third-party recycled or remanufactured cartridges are virtually identical in performance by revealing equally bright colours and fast ink drying as original OEM printer cartridges. The obvious comparable quality has led to a significant increase by both home users and businesses to choose compatible ink carts and not return to buying original brand cartridges. Any tiny difference in quality is seen as not justify paying a much higher price and thus contributes to making a real key cost saving to monthly budgets.

Alternative to Dell Laser Printers in a corporate environment?

We use Dell corporate wide. 2 years ago we bought nothing but 1710dn printers. Toner was about $60. Then dell replaced that model with 1720dn. Toner went to about $80, plus I then had to carry stock on both toners. NOW, Dell has replaced the 1720dn with another model. The toner is now $100.

I'll now have 3 different models of printers and I'll need to stock 3 different toner carts and build my images with three sets of drivers.

I'm ready to end this madness.

Has anyone found a good laser printer that is produced year after year without model upgrades? A big plus would be if it had a reasonably priced toner cartridge too.

I suppose it's just the world we live in, but I feel that Dell's constant model switching and escalating toner costs are getting to be a bit much. Go look at the guts of a 1710dn and then a 1720dn printer. They specifically "keyed" the 1720 to not take 1710 toner.

Who has a solution?

HP, that's all my company uses and they change models very infrequently, especially for lasers. The toner is also about $70 but that is the price for EVERY TONER HP HAS MADE, the price has never gone up or down.
