Ribbon Refill Rolls
Ribbon Refill Rolls

Have you ever gone to an event and the party favors and gifts just left you thinking "these are beautiful" or "these must have cost a fortune" or even "I wonder how this was made". Well if your like me, I wonder not only the same but how can I get the same effect. Over the last few years I have made it my personal business to research the creativity behind the ultimate party favor and have found it's really not hard to accomplish.
Even if you don't have a lot of time to invest in sitting in front of the computer researching tutorials and then going to purchase supplies, you can still make a creative gift that will leave a lasting impression. With a few simple purchases, this can all be possible.
Craft stores like Michael's and AC Moore have all that you will need and more. Some of these store will even offer classes to teach you how to create these items. They also have many books to assist you with creativity and what is popular or you can use one of favorite resources, The Library. After you begin to grow in this field you will find less space to accommodate your creative influences so I try to only purchase items I will use immediately, Like I said, try.
A purchase that will go a long way for decorating favors are Punches. They are found in many shapes, sizes, and at every craft store. They are used to punch shapes out of paper. The prices for these items can range anywhere from about $3.00 - 5.00 per punch. I would suggest to invest in a scallop, and circle punch. They work well with ribbon to accent a gift such as packaged foods. Pair two of the same shapes in different sizes layering a smaller shape over a larger one using decorative or plan colored card stock for a more polished look.
Adhesive will definitely be needed, how else will you hold together all this creativity. Glue Dots are very popular in holding ribbon in place discreetly. Glue Dots are sold in many sizes and come on a roll. A box of 144 dots can cost you about $4.00. They are easy to use, just press the item onto the glue dot where you want it to adhere and stick it to your package. It's easier to use than craft glue and less messy. Craft glue leaves unsightly strings of glue and has a dangerous odor. If found by a child, craft glue can be deadly if inhaled for too long or swallowed. Glue dots on the other hand are safer. They have a strong hold but can be readjusted if needed. Another item very popular in crafting is the Adhesive Dispenser. This handheld dispenser adds thin strips or glue dots with ease. Many crafters use them for greeting cards and shapes where tape cannot reach with ease. It can also be refilled. This dispenser like the previous items listed, can also be found at craft and stationery stores like Staples. The price for this adhesive dispenser can range from $3.00 -$5.00 and a refill pack about $6.00.
Ribbons are becoming a perfect asset to making decorations stand out. There is not much to say about them, they have been around for ages and can be found in different widths and materials. I will say to invest in a good pair of scissors that will be used only for your ribbon. Nothing says tacky like frayed edges of a ribbon. A clean crisp cut will give your finished product a more professional look. Ribbon scissors can be purchased but again do not use the same scissor you cut your paper with to cut your ribbon. Paper dulls scissors blades which will cause your ribbon to fray. Prices vary for this item depending on material but usually are on sale in craft stores for a few dollars a spool.
Rubber stamps and ink pads. You can start off with basic black ink and add more colors to your collection to add extra flair. Rubber stands help in getting a message on paper without writing it over and over. They have so many sentiments on rubber stamps these days, you can get any message across on your gifts. I once used a rubber stamp for a tag on the packaging on a cake box. It added pop that made this gift a little more special. A rubber stamped sentiment added to a punch out shape with a gorgeous ribbon is a definite plus in professional packaging.
Paper is also needed to seal this deal. There are so many types of paper and this is where your creativity comes in. Velum is very delicate for weddings and baby showers, card stock in patterns and bright colors are great for children's parties but the possibilities are endless. Paper depending on the material can be sold by single sheets or in a tablet (a book of coordinated themes or colors). I prefer card stock for the durability and color.
Looks like someone is on their way to creating some fabulous favors. With this list your creativity should be in over drive and as you grow you will begin to see the confidence in creating these items. You will purchase more items as you develop and even more creativity will open up. I thank you for reading this article and I hope it helps you conquer your next task with ease.
