Why won't my computer detect my CD?

I have Vista and an Inspiron 5315 Slim. My computer won't detect my DVD+RW 8X imation it is 2 hours video 4.7GB data. My computer won't detect it.
Oh and it CAN detect CD R (don't know if + or -). Haven't tried any other type of CD.
